On History

What's happening now
  • Team 4950 did great during their competition on December 1 in the San Jose Playspace.
Here are the results:
  • 5th seeded by the end of qualifiers (out of 16 teams)
  • Finalist Alliance Captain
  • Connect Award Recipient
This competition qualified 4950 for the Northern California Regional Championship, which is scheduled to take place in the beginning of 2013 in Sacramento. Our team is working really hard for the competitions coming up in the future. Currently we are signed up for two more qualifiers in January, one on the 20th in Daly City and the other on the 26th in Livermore, before we head to the championship.
  • All FRC members must sign up on STIMS by the start of the build season. Click and log in (create a new account if you’ve never used STIMS before. Follow the instructions on PAGES 3 and 4 on to complete your sign up. This will enter you into FIRST’s systems as a member of FRC Team 2473.
  • There is less than a month until our build season begins, so mark down Saturday, January 5th on your calendars as the date for the FRC Kickoff! We will be meeting from 1:00 to 5:00 followed by a potluck dinner until 7:00. This is when we find out what our game is for FRC and begin brainstorming ideas for our robot, so all FRC members are expected to show up. Only FRC members are invited to the brainstorming session, however, parents are allowed and encouraged to attend the potluck. The signup for the potluck is at http://goo.gl/BE3tP.

About FIRST

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization founded by innovative entrepreneur Dean Kamen, who wishes to offer youth an appreciation for the wonders of science and technology. Since its establishment in New Hampshire in 1989, FIRST has been a helpful non-profit charity organization, providing young teenagers with opportunities to "pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills". In 1992, FIRST began the FIRST Robotics Competition. Soon after, in 1998, the FIRST Lego League began. In 2006, FIRST began its FIRST Tech Challenge program. All of these programs have met with great success, and have since given thousands of students the motivation to pursue careers in the science and technology sector.

For high schoolers, FIRST hosts the FIRST Robotics Competion (FRC). This is an annual robotics competition in which teams from high schools all over the U.S. and from even outside of the U.S. build a robot in 45 days that can play the year's game. In the years that FRC has been active, all of the games have included many new challenges, such as slippery floors (2009 Lunacy), floors of corn (1992 Maize Craze), hanging on structures (2000 Co-opertition and 2010 Breakaway), and mobile goals (2001 Diabolical Dynamics). Overcoming these obstacles takes many days of brainstorming, many seemingly crazy and ridiculus ideas, and hundreds of hours of machining. It is the pride that comes with overcoming these challenges, thinking creatively, performing professionally, and bonding with fellow team members that defines winning in the FIRST Robotics Cometition.

About CHS Robotics Wiki

This wiki was established in the summer of 2011 to serve as a project management resource for CHS Robotics. As it turns out, a wiki providing project tools is not very useful unless it has reference tools as well, so the role of this wiki has now evolved into the secondary knowledge resource and research database for CHS Robotics.

The goal of the CHS Robotics Wiki is to serve as a knowledge base for CHS Robotics students, and as a project management tool for the three teams.

How to get started

At this time, editing this wiki is restricted to verified members of CHS Robotics. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of a wiki admin or one of the team captains.

Once you are ready to edit, take a look at some of the many tutorials we have currently written, and feel free to improve upon them, or write your own on other topics. For tutorials on how to edit a wiki, see the Wikipedia Editing Tutorial.
